Silver Dollar and Murray Lakes Trail
Silver Dollar Lake Trail is famous for its wildflowers: botanists report that 100 species bloom along the trail. The trail traverses the south side of the narrow valley. The large lake at the bottom of the gulch is Naylor Lake and is privately owned. At the head of the valley, Silver Dollar and Murray Lakes are stocked and trout anglers can often be seen along the shoreline. Begin hiking at the west end of the parking lot. The trail curves moderately steeply through a thinning forest and crosses a small creek your dog may enjoy exploring while you admire the blue monkshood and larkspur wildflowers growing in abundance in the dappled shade. Soon the trail reaches timberline as it contours along the north flank of Square Top Mountain that rises steeply to the left. Slightly ahead and also to the left beyond Square Top’s slope is Argentine Peak.
