Silver Creek Pass
A day hike to the East Fork divide or a backpack to Avalanche Lake. This lesser-known trail starts in the high country and surmounts a lofty pass before traversing high above the East Fork of Avalanche Creek. Here can be found some of the most stark and wild landscape in the Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness. The trail is easy to follow as far as the pass into the East Fork drainage, which makes an excellent day hike destination. Backpackers who follow this route to Avalanche Lake will find that the path is quite primitive, and requires well-honed trail-finding skills. The trail crosses terrain that is too steep and rugged for horses.
