Sheep Mountain (Larimer County)
Hiking up to this foothills summit is a good workout that can be enjoyed nearly year round. Studying the names of Colorado’s mountains is fascinating. Many commemorate historical people and places. Some are named for their configuration. Others are still unnamed, awaiting the will of future generations. Certain names have been given to several mountains in this state. Examples are Green, Bald, Ptarmigan and this hike for Week 47, Sheep Mountain. The route to the top is the Round Mountain National Recreational Trail. (This peak presents a rounded summit from Loveland.) The trail is very clear and has informational signs about the ecology along the way.
