Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge: Lakes Loop Trail
This hike is unique, beautiful, and odd. This former Army arsenal and chemical munitions facility gives some visitors an eerie feeling because it is barren and deserted. Weapons were produced here during WWII, and then the land was leased to commercial pesticide companies. It is the largest contiguous open space in the Denver metropolitan area and the site is currently undergoing a major environmental restoration program. There is absolutely no sign of such activity on this short and sweet hike around two beautiful lakes, even through (over) one of the two lakes. But the whisper of ghosts may quicken your stride.
