Reilly and Levsa Canyons
Trinidad, CO

Reilly and Levsa Canyons
This hike first follows the Levsa Canyon Nature Trail and then about 2.2 miles of the Reilly Canyon Trail. Winding through piñon pine and juniper forest gives you an idea of the land through which early settlers traveled, especially on the Mountain Branch of the Santa Fe Trail (where Interstate 25 now exists). The suggested turnaround point is a bench where the trail approaches the lake and has a good view of the dam. Look for deer in some of the meadows. While hiking you can catch views of Fishers Peak as well as the old coal mines and town sites on or below the south shore.
