Red Rock Loop Trail
This is a fun hike in the popular Brainard Lake Recreation Area west of Boulder. The trail descends steadily from the trailhead and crosses South St. Vrain Creek, then wanders through deep woods for its entire length, with only moderate climbs along the way. Pines give way to a grove of aspen as the path skirts by the edge of a secluded lake, and soon we hear the creek again as it tumbles down a waterfall into a small canyon. This area sees plenty of use, but most is concentrated close to Brainard Lake and the well-traveled Sourdough Trail south of the entrance road, leaving our trail peaceful and uncrowded.
