Rabbit Ears Peak
Steamboat Springs, CO

Rabbit Ears Peak
From a distance, the twin prongs of Rabbit Ears Peak are aptly named. Up close, the “ears” betray their violent origins: volcanic plugs now deeply eroded. But it is the jeep-road trail up to them that causes wildflower enthusiasts to catch their breath. From start to finish, a never-ending exhibition of crazy quilt colors sweep along this hike. Early season hikers enjoy a plethora of glacier lilies. It’s an “ooh and ahh” kind of place. The old road undulates through flowery meadows before ascending at a faster pace. Weaving in and out of evergreen stands and across meadows, Rabbit Ears Peak Trail then climbs steeply to reach the base of the “ears” themselves. Wildflower Alert: This trail showcases endless Colorado color, ranging from primary to pastel in July. You’ll discover a glory of glacier lilies in early summer.
