Plymouth Mountain Trail

Deer Creek Canyon Park is one of Jefferson County’s open space acquisitions in the foothills of the Front Range. The program to acquire former ranchland and historic sites began in 1972. John Williamson, who came from Plymouth, England, in 1872, once homesteaded a portion of the park. He is credited with naming Plymouth Creek and Plymouth Mountain, the destination of this hike. Because this open space has seven interconnected trails, you have a variety of options for hiking depending on your stamina and on the weather. East- and south-facing slopes can get very hot in the summer, so the best hiking time is in the spring and fall, when the groves of Gamble (scrub) oak turn a burnished orange.
