Platte River Greenway Trail: Adams County
Once the Platte River reaches Adams County, the heavy concentration of industrial activity along its banks eases. The river curves northeast and begins its course across the flat and open prairie, giving glimpses of the broad, free-flowing river compellingly evoked by James A. Michener in his Colorado novel Centennial. This area was once the agricultural center for Denver and there are still some small working farms, including one that grows onions. The riverbanks are low and gentle, with numerous sandbars that connect to an occasional sandy beach.
