Pine to Peak Loop Trail
Requiring little effort, yet offering magnificent views, a hike up Bald Mountain can be the first “peak” attained by beginning mountain climbers. While walking through this forest, alert children to the rhythmical tapping of a hairy woodpecker or the chatter of tassel-eared Abert squirrels, both residents here. Your youngsters may see a stout gray bird climbing headfirst down the pine trees. This acrobat is a nuthatch, of either the pygmy or white-breasted variety. The trail to this barren, windswept mountaintop begins in the friendly confines of a ponderosa pine forest adjacent to the parking lot.
