Piedra Ice Fissures Trail
For a “really cool” close-up look and feel of the Pagosa region’s unique geology, your kids will want to check out this historic offshoot of the Piedra River Trail. This is not a Forest Service–maintained trail, and little ones who tend to wander are not advised here due to the unprotected nature of the ice fissures. It’s a short walk to the fissures, followed by an easy ascent that levels to an aspen-shaded overlook of the Piedra River valley.
