Pawnee Buttes
Pawnee National Grassland is the prairie gem of northeastern Colorado. The trail leading to the two wind-scoured buttes crosses fields and gullies with limitless views in all directions. An overlook, located 0.3 mile north of the road from the trailhead, provides sweeping views of the grasslands and both buttes. For children, this nationally known study area for birds of prey is a wildlife wonderland to explore. A night spent under this giant canopy of stars, with a breeze rustling the grasses, will long be remembered.
