Mount Thomas Summit Trail

If the Garden of Eden was to be relocated to an alpine setting, Mount Thomas would be an obvious choice. Wildflowers grow in ponds of swirling colors, complemented by legions of vibrant butterflies patrolling for pollen. After a deceptively modern start under crackling power lines, it soon becomes apparent mankind has left a softer bootprint in these immaculate alpine meadows. Wildlife has taken refuge in the vanilla- and pine-scented forest; mountain lions, black bears, badgers, elk, porcupine, marmots, and even the rare lynx are all acquainted with Red Table Mountain. Half of this hike is above treeline, and the 360-degree views are amongst the best in the state. At times, the beauty of this area is overwhelming; it will recharge your spirit in the same way that clear, fresh mountain air refreshes your body.
