Mount Sanitas Trail
Here is a short trip on a popular path at the base of Sunshine Canyon, toward the north end of Boulder. The loop follows rocky tread through sparse ponderosa to the summit of Mount Sanitas, and descends an open hillside to return on a wide gravel path. With easy access and proximity to town, this trail is a favorite of hikers, runners, and climbers. It is common to see super-fit people running on this trail, and halfway up the initial ascent is a collection of huge boulders, cliffs, and rock formations that attract technical climbers. True to form with many Front Range hikes, Sanitas offers superb views of Boulder and the eastern plains. The climb to the summit is steady but not grueling, and the descent is mellow and finishes with an easy stroll to the trailhead.
