Mount McConnel
This lower elevation Wilderness Area is a good choice for early season hiking. Mount McConnel is a good early or late season hike and should now be free of snow. The Kreutzer Nature Trail, named after the first National Forest ranger, overlaps part of the route and provides a series of informational signs along the way. The Mount McConnel Trail sees a lot of use, as it is the only developed trail in the Cache la Poudre Wilderness, one of the smaller and lower elevation wilderness areas in Colorado. After your hike, check your body and clothes for ticks since they are abundant in April and May.
