Mill Creek Basin
Estes Park, CO

Mill Creek Basin
Rocky Mountain National Park has so much incredible hiking, it would take weeks to exhaust all the possibilities. Nestled in the montane zone, Mill Creek Basin loop is accessible early in the season. It travels through several habitats and has a number of species of wildflowers to search out. Where Mill Creek Trail travels beside its namesake stream, it appears to be used more by horseback riders than hikers. By the “keyhole” portion of the loop, the equestrians have veered off, and the remainder of the route is tranquil underfoot. The aspen-studded basin of Mill Creek is a pleasant goal with more than six dozen species of wildflowers awaiting discovery along the way. Hollowell Park is the jumping-off place, especially for those using the shuttle bus. Wildflower alert: Plenty of penstemons and other wildflowers of the montane zone.
