Middle Fork Trail to Middle Fork Pass
Wildflowers; views of Coxcomb, Redcliff, Uncompahgre Peak, Wetterhorn Peak, and others. Along with its neighbor the Wetterhorn Basin Trail (in the West Fork of the Cimarron River), the Middle Fork of the Cimarron is one of my favorite day hikes in the Uncompahgre Wilderness. A well-maintained and relatively easy trail leads up the east side of the Middle Fork of the Cimarron River into a meadow near timberline that is characterized by dramatic mountain views and a wonderful variety of wildflowers. The more ambitious hiker will want to continue up the final 1,200-foot climb to Middle Fork Pass, from which views of many of the Uncompahgre’s high peaks reward the hard work.
