Mesa Lakes and Lost Lake Trail
Like many of the hikes on Grand Mesa, this hike has little elevation gain to tax you but it is sheer joy for your canine companion. Grand Mesa is studded with hundreds of lakes, reservoirs, and beaver ponds. Although your dog has to stay on-leash on the trail, at the lake’s edge the leash comes off and he can frolic in the water. This hike offers such opportunities at five different lakes, so enjoy. But also bring plenty of mosquito repellent during summer months or after a wet spell in early fall. After parking your car, hike south from Sunset Lake and pick up the Mesa Lake Shore Trail loop. Take this trail counterclockwise, keeping the lake on your left. The trail passes through stands of evergreens and copses of aspen as it heads south toward a ridgeline.
