Meadow View Loop
Pleasant and relatively flat, this hike meanders through the meadow and forest that blanket the eastern flank of 9,708-foot Bergen Peak. The huge meadow is chameleon-like - in spring its vibrant green is painted with swaths of yellow, pink and purple wildflowers; in fall, the golden grasses are stained with russet, red and orange. The relatively open stands of lodgepole and ponderosa pine are dotted with aspen. Oh ye who would get away from all signs of civilization, don't despair- the sounds of nearby highway eventually fade as you hike into the forest. Elk Meadow Park, one of the most popular in the foothills, offers a variety of hiking opportunities.
