Main Canyon
In addition to being under consideration as a wilderness area, a collection of canyons that dissect the Little Bookcliffs northeast of Grand Junction is also a well-known wild horse range by the same name. An estimated 80 to 100 wild horses call this area home and, thanks to such natural impediments as canyon walls, the chances of spotting some of these magnificent mustangs are good. Among the many hiking routes that the Bureau of Land Management has identified and established in the Little Bookcliffs WSA, the Main Canyon Trail is most easily accessed and easiest to follow.
