Lower Cataract Lake
Lower Cataract Lake is a wildflower lover’s nirvana. In addition to over 80 blooming species along the two-mile trail looping the lake, an extravagant hillside of lush blue columbine highlights the gentle hike. At the end of Cataract Creek Road, this pleasing walk is rarely out of the sight or sound of water. The cascades, which pour into the lake, may be roaring with spring runoff or burbling secretively as summer wanes. An early arrival not only makes parking easier, but the lake waters are serene and the light best for photography. Wildflower Alert: This trail takes you to a flowery eden featuring a glen profuse with blue columbine in early summer.
