Lodgepole Loop Trail
Ladies and gentlemen! Boys and girls of all ages! Welcome to the greatest show on earth! According to some Jefferson County lore, this hike’s history incorporates a little clowning around. Meyer Ranch Park owns some of the most appealing history in the state. Legend has it that in the 1880s, Meyer Ranch housed the animals from P. T. Barnum’s circus during the winter months. Today it is not uncommon to see any number of ungulates roaming the park, but to think we are only about a century late in witnessing circus animals in the foothills of Colorado is unique indeed! The hike itself is a brief jaunt into the woods near Aspen Park and Conifer. It’s a short but pleasant hike ideal for escaping the rigors of city life and enjoying refreshing woods and small dells brimming with wildflowers.
