Littlejohns Cabins
The valley of Pine Creek is one of the most beautiful in the Collegiate Peaks, with four skyscraping fourteeners. The trail leading southwest along Pine Creek takes you into one of the most beautiful valleys in the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. Four sky-scraping fourteeners (and several other high peaks) and some beautiful alpine lakes can be reached from this valley. At the head of the valley is a gorgeous basin, renowned for its summer wildflower displays. You pay a price for all this beauty, as it is a long, hard pack in. Fortunately, the hike to Littlejohn’s is a lot more manageable and very pretty in its own right. Flowing water is abundant throughout the hike. Harry Littlejohn's cabins were built around 1881 and are listed in the National Registry of Historic Landmarks. A trail to the Mount Harvard summit begins from the forge and burro shed across the creek on the southern edge of Littlejohn's land.
