Little Matterhorn Trail
Here is a chance to enjoy a fabulous overnight trip in the center of Rocky Mountain National Park. Starting in the lush meadows of Moraine Park and skirting some impressive peaks at the base of the Continental Divide, this hike offers secluded lakes, numerous streams and rivers, waterfalls, and a big helping of some of the prettiest mountains in the park. Before we even take a single step, there are fine views of the high peaks of the Continental Divide to the west, a mighty backdrop to this peaceful valley. The Cub Lake Trail meanders over Big Thompson River and through an expansive riparian zone toward Steep Mountain. Look out into this wetland meadow for signs of elk. This is a favorite hangout of theirs, so there is a good chance to spot a few.
