Linkins Lake
This short but steep trail offers rapid access to an alpine lake near Independence Pass. The trail begins with a modest climb through the open meadows that border the headwaters of the Roaring Fork. There are fine views up the Roaring Fork valley as the trail levels off, then climbs steeply up the final pitch to reach Linkins Lake. Lying just above the timberline in a glacier-carved cirque, Linkins Lake is surrounded by mats of low-growing willow and verdant swards of tundra. Low summits rise around its basin, and to the east there are fine views of Twining Peak, as well as Star Peak and Ouray Mountain beyond Independence Pass.
