A variety of wooded foothills terrain and an easy car shuttle. The Larson Lakes/Little Elk/Independence Trail linkup is one of the few in this book that stays below timberline for its entire length. As such, it requires somewhat less exertion than many others. Still, its length and some stout uphill hiking will make for a full day.
