Lake Isabelle and Pawnee Pass Trail
Lake Isabelle may well be the jewel of the Brainard Lake Recreation Area and the Indian Peaks Wilderness. There are many hikes with lovely vistas, abundant wildflowers, and beautiful streams. Lake Isabelle scores a 10 n each category. Thus, the crowds are plentiful, but if you get an early start, go midweek, or go far enough, you will escape most other hikers. Because of the area’s popularity, the Forest Service has imposed the following use fees: $1 per pedestrian, $5 per vehicle, $5 for an overnight camping permit (June 1 through September 15). A season pass is $20. Camping fees end September 15. Entrance fees end around November 1. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash at all times.
