Killpecker Trail
This trail provides a nice, out-of-the-way hike through the heart of Roosevelt National Forest. Scenes along the way include cascading Killpecker Creek, lush pine forest, small forest meadows, culminating by passing beneath the boulder-strewn summit of Middle Bald Mountain. A short offtrail hike to the summit provides breathtaking views of five mountain ranges. The Forest Service doesn’t consider the Killpecker as a roadless area, and may build a radio tower and access road to Middle Bald Mountain in the near future. Several conservation groups, including The Colorado Mountain Club, continue to advocate it being managed as a roadless area.
