James Peak Wilderness: Heart Lake Trail
Several hikes in the book, such as Walker Ranch and South Boulder Creek, follow South Boulder Creek in lower elevations. This hike goes to Rogers Pass Lake and Heart Lake, the source of South Boulder Creek. The hike travels through cool, dense spruce and fir forest, leading up into a beautiful alpine basin ringed with high mountain peaks. Hikers frustrated with parking in nearby Indian Peaks Wilderness will have an easy time here. This trail is less crowded than its neighbors.
