Inner Canyon Loop
Castlewood Canyon is a startling gouge in the prairie. Deceptively placid most of the year, the relentless and occasionally furious flow of Cherry Creek has carved this steep shallow gorge, exposing the tan and gray rock that underlays the grassland. The canyon cliffs are an ideal playground for rock climbers, who splay colorfully above the trails. At creekside, sun-splashed rocks shelter pools in which hikers can cool their heels after rambling about in the sunbaked canyon bottom.
