Huron Peak Summit Trail
Huron’s locale in the southern Sawatch makes it the perfect perch for views of Colorado’s highest peaks (Elbert, La Plata, etc.) to the north; the amazing views of Ice Mountain and the Three Apostles to the south ain’t too shabby, either! The trail is very well maintained, making Huron a very good hike for non-hardcore hikers, dogs, and groups of mixed ability. A direct, on-trail ascent to the summit won’t take long for fit climbers. Ambitious peak-baggers looking for more fun are welcome to head north of Huron and summit up to three more peaks, making for a longer day (which is nicely concluded as a loop). Alternately, scramblers can go for a “suicide push” up the steep but stable west ridge, a good off-trail option for those wanting to avoid crowds.
