High Line Canal Trail: Waterton Canyon
The High Line Canal Trail in this area is open sunrise to sunset. Dogs must be on leash, and watch out for free-roaming cattle alongside the canal. If you are looking for solitude, great views of Denver in the hazy distance, and a surprisingly realistic glimpse of what this area looked like around 1900, you will enjoy this casual, easy hike. The canal begins nearly 2 miles east of Waterton Canyon. A diversion dam on the South Platte River funnels water into a 600-foot-long tunnel. Water is siphoned beneath the river and carried in several flumes into the canal.
