High Line Canal Trail: Blackmer Lake
The track of land adjacent to this segment of the High Line Canal almost became the retirement home of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, whose wife, Mamie, was a Denver native. But since the president retired to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, after his second term, the acreage became the home of the Kent Denver Day School. When the South Suburban Parks and Recreation District came into existence, Cherry Hill Village, within whose boundaries this portion of the trail runs, contracted with the district to maintain the trail, as it does in all of Arapahoe County. The trail also serves as a maintenance road that is used by local animal control vehicles and by the Denver Water Board, which owns the canal.
