Hayden / Green Mountain
Hayden/Green Mountain Open Space Park on the outskirts of Lakewood is awash with colorful flowers in spring and early summer. Green Mountain’s gentle slopes, especially those north and east, are a wildflower enthusiast’s dream come true. Typically, mid-May to late June is the optimum window of bloom. The Hayden/Green Mountain Trail sets out by climbing along old roads to gain most of the elevation before arriving at the trail’s high point where hikers enjoy a 360-degree view of Denver, the Dakota Hogback, and three fourteeners beyond the foothills of the Front Range. It then changes direction to traverse back down. Wildflower alert: Open hillsides colored by wildflowers in spring.
