The Foothills Trail travels through three city natural areas as well as county recreation areas along Horsetooth Reservoir and features a wide variety of foothills topography with ponds, hills, valleys, climbs, and descents and great reservoir, city, and mountain views. It is an intermediate mountain biking trail but is easy to negotiate on foot. The entire round-trip on foot makes a good running route; for hiking, enjoying pieces of the trail is more fun. An intermediate mountain bike trail that’s easy to negotiate on foot, this trail travels along the eastern shoreline of Horsetooth Reservoir. Enjoy the beauty of the sparkling water, the impressive foothills backdrop, and the richly colored rocks of hogback on this hilly trail that runs along the eastern edge of the reservoir, north of Dixon Dam. You can hike or mountain bike the fee trail or ride on the paved road (Centennial Drive) free. There are many picnic spots with sweeping views of the water and hills.
