Flattop Mountain and Hallett Peak
The hike up Flattop Mountain and Hallett Peak is truly a memorable experience. The switchbacks up the eastern slope of Flattop, and the last few hundred feet of rock scrambling to Hallett’s summit, may be daunting for those unaccustomed to long uphill or higher-elevation hikes, but this is a well-marked trail with no technical or exposed hiking. Wildlife sightings are possible as the trail progresses up Flattop’s eastern flank to the Continental Divide and one of the park’s most prominently visible landmarks,Hallett Peak. Start this hike early in order to secure a parking spot at the trailhead and to avoid possible afternoon thunderstorms.
