Eccles Pass
Who can pass up the chance to top out on two high passes in a day, especially with those gorgeous wildflowers? Here is a great hike in the Gore Range with easy access from Denver. The grade is gradual, and you are not likely to encounter very many other hikers. The route follows Meadow reek up a lovely valley through stunning aspen groves to reach a flower-decked bowl beneath Eccles Pass. The views from the pass are gorgeous, overlooking another alpine bowl northwest of Buffalo Peak. Here’s your chance to top two high passes in one day! It is surprising easy to continue on to Red Buffalo Pass, another mile further. You will not dip below treeline again and will pass a couple of pretty tarns along the way. And, oh yes, there are wildflowers to delight even the most grumpy hiker.
