East Beckwith Mountain Summit Trail – Far East Peak Traverse

These peaks give hikers something lacking in most areas: an untamed mountain that is raw, rugged, and challenging—but has easy access. Most of the hike is off-trail, and while it’s easy to navigate, it’s on some very loose and unsettled talus fields in sections. All that is forgotten once you gain the ridged rim of the horseshoe, which bestows a good class 2+/3 scramble to Beckwith’s isolated summit. A short walk over to “Far East Peak” is part of the standard route. Incredible views are everywhere, especially of the high Elk Range peaks to the north in Aspen (the Maroon Bells, Treasury Mountain, etc.). If you’re a fan of truly rugged off-trail mayhem, the Horseshoe Heroes Loop is waiting.
