Dream and Emerald Lakes
Of the many lovely lakes in the 415-square-mile Rocky Mountain National Park, you’ll rarely find three in a row, especially so close together. Nymph, Dream, and Emerald lakes are varied in settings, each more stunning than the last. About 40 kinds of wildflowers contribute colorful accents, including some spring bloomers coming out in summer where snow lingers late. To insure a quick start on a hike to the three lakes, hop the shuttle. The busy Bear Lake parking lot is nearly always full. The trail begins between the Bear Lake information booths and rises to Nymph Lake, followed soon by well-named Dream Lake. The last pitch to reach Emerald Lake is steep and rugged, but worth the effort. Wildflower alert: A good summer trail to view marsh marigold, globeflower and pink bog laurel.
