Donner Pass and Lookout Mountain
Masonville, CO

Donner Pass and Lookout Mountain
Fall or spring is the time of year for this enjoyable hike to an aptly-named foothills summit. Infamous Donner Pass in California was the site of a tragedy in the winter of 1847; a group of immigrants was stranded and many died of starvation. This Donner Pass lacks such dramatic history but does lead to aptly-named Lookout Mountain, west of Loveland. This is a fine spring or fall hike to a foothills peak with excellent, surprising unobstructed vistas.
