Difficult Creek Trail
Imagine yourself wrapped in a warm green blanket of aspen and evergreens, serenaded by a laughing wind, nourished by ripe red berries and the clear water of a mountain spring. The Difficult Creek Trail is swaddled in such a natural environment (varying with the season); pick a sunny late-summer afternoon and revel in the colors, the swirling sounds, and the peace. You will have to work for your sun-splashed idyll, however—the Difficult Creek Trail is a good, solid climb. The trail’s ultimate destination is the remains of four old cabins, tucked in the woods along the creek, but this hike ends in a shady dell flushed by silvery Difficult Creek, where the trees grow openly enough to allow the sunshine through. The trail climbs through a forest of great variety; in late summer, wild berries grow thick along its edges.
