Dauntless Mine Loop
Full of history and dreams of wealth, the Dauntless Mine area today claims one of the region’s most concentrated theaters of wealth: wildflowers. The ore of yesteryear’s silver barons is long gone. Tucked into a couple of short but flowery ravines, run-off waters nurture some six dozen species of wildflowers—a concentrated alpine flowerscape without parallel in the region. A path has been blazed by those seeking the best of the floral displays. Changes in blooming sequence may be apparent in successive visits made just two weeks apart, with 60 species during the last of July and 80 species by mid-August. Wildflower Alert: This trail features an alpine rill high above treelimit, flanked by a flower baron’s wealth of concentrated color.
