Corona Lake
Winter Park, CO

Corona Lake
Tucked in a bowl of talus-covered slopes, attractive Corona Lake is a short easy downhill hike. Along the way, alpine wildflowers bask in the generous light above treelimit. When Corona Lake Trail dips back into the subalpine zone, even more and different flowers appear. From a start at 11,600 feet, the trail journeys down before rising a short distance to lake level at 11,206 feet. A few water hazards add pizzazz to the hike. The historically risky Moffatt Hill railroad route makes it easy for today’s driver to reach Rollins/Corona Pass on the Continental Divide. Graded to locomotive requirements, the 15-mile road, though bumpy in places, is accessible to passenger vehicles. Wildflower Alert: Showy subalpine daisies dance along the trail on the way to this pretty alpine lake.
