Chatfield Reservoir Trails
The thunderstorms that drench the Front Range on summer afternoons form over the high peaks to the west. As clouds are driven eastward by prevailing winds, they become intricate sculptures, pearly white on top and ominously gray below. Chatfield State Park is a great place to watch the development of these thunderheads. Located at the base of the foothills, this park also preserves bottomlands and meadows that harbor a host of flora and fauna. A hike on this gentle trail is a perfect family outing, offering easy walking and the chance to observe both weather and wildlife. Chatfield Reservoir is open to boating, sailboarding, fishing, and swimming. Dry-land activities include wildlife viewing, picnicking, camping, and a model airplane airway.
