Browns Pass - Hartenstein Lake
A day hike to Hartenstein Lake or Browns Pass, or a backpack to Texas Creek. The trail to Browns Pass represents one of the most popular entry points into the southern reaches of the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. The marshy, subalpine basin of Hartenstein Lake makes a good day hike for anglers, while history buffs might choose as their goal the collapsed cabins and mine shafts just beyond Browns Pass. For backpackers, Browns Pass offers one of the more scenic routes into the Texas Creek valley, an extensive drainage with a true backcountry aspect. Because the trailhead is on a paved road, this area receives lots of visitors, particularly on weekends.
