Blue Lake
Surrounded by 12,446-foot Little Pawnee Peak on the south, 13,223-foot Mount Audubon on the north, and majestic Mount Toll rising due west, Blue Lake sits in a magnificent setting. To reach Blue Lake, the trail travels nearly 2.5 miles through terrain filled with nook-and-cranny meadows of subalpine wildflowers. Water is a near-constant companion, whether confined as a pond or lake, or running in streams. The first trail segment, which takes the hiker to Mitchell Lake, gains only about 300 feet in elevation; continuing on to Blue Lake adds another 700 vertical feet. Wildflower alert: Pockets of subalpine flowers, including little pink elephants, asters, and blueleaf cinquefoil.
