Bierstadt Lake
Bierstadt Lake’s formation may be unique among the lakes of Rocky Mountain National Park: It rests in a basin formed by the merging of two lateral moraines, rock ridges dumped by glaciers as they flowed down mountain valleys. Most of the park’s lakes were made by glaciers, but in ways that set them beneath scenic peaks. Bierstadt just sits in the midst of woods, although the view across from the north shore toward Longs Peak in the distance is not bad. Highlights: Views of Hallett and Longs Peaks from Bear Lake, views of Longs Peak from Bierstadt Lake, aspen along south side of Bierstadt Moraine.
