Bear Creek Lake Trail Loop
An incredible prairie dog colony is the unusual highlight of this great trail loop. The broad concrete path winds up through the open meadowland that is home to these small brown critters, who assume frozen poses as hikers and cyclists pass, looking much like short hairy pillars of dirt mounted on crumbling brown pedestals. They don’t budge, instead furtively watching the flurry of exercise that surrounds them. Bear Creek Lake sits near the mouth of Bear Creek Canyon, at the base of the foothills. The Soda Lakes, host to a variety of water-born activities, also lie within this lovely park. The well-maintained concrete and asphalt trail that loops through the park offers views and access to all these lakes, as well as picnic areas, scenic viewpoints, and other amenities.
