Aurora Reservoir Loop
Fragrant prairie grasses frame the navy-blue waters of Aurora Reservoir, forming the perfect setting for a splendid day hike. A rolling paved path encircles the reservoir, tracing the long fingers of inlets and reaching into marshlands thick with waterfowl and other wildlife. On the water, the scenery is enlivened by sailboarders and small boats, the sails of which are filled by the sometimes brisk winds that sweep the plains. Plan to spend the day at the reservoir. After the hike, which qualifies as easy despite its length, enjoy the cooling waters at the swimming beach, fish from the dam, eat lunch or a snack in the picnic area, or, if the wind picks up, try sailing or sailboarding.
