OFFICIAL SWEEPSTAKES RULES

1. Eligibility. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. THIS SWEEPSTAKES OPEN ONLY TO LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE U.S. (EXCLUDING RESIDENTS OF FLORIDA, NEW YORK AND RHODE ISLAND) AGE 18 OR OLDER. IF YOU ARE NOT A LEGAL RESIDENT OF THE U.S. OR AGE 18 OR OLDER, YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO WIN A PRIZE, AND REI RESERVES THE RIGHT NOT TO AWARD PRIZES TO ENTRANTS WHO RESIDE IN OTHER JURISDICTIONS. If you have an APO or FPO mailing address, you must identify your state of permanent residence. To be eligible to win a prize, entries must be completed and received by REI in the format designated below. Directors, officers and employees of REI and any of their respective affiliate companies, subsidiaries, agents, professional advisors, advertising and promotional agencies, and immediate families of each are not eligible to win any prizes. All applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Offer void in Florida, New York, Rhode Island, Puerto Rico and where prohibited.
2. Disclaimer. REI, all participating sponsors and any of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, professional advisors, employees and agencies will not be responsible for: (a) any late, lost, misrouted, garbled or distorted or damaged transmissions or entries; (b) telephone, electronic, hardware, software, network, Internet, or other computer- or communications-related malfunctions or failures; (c) any Sweepstakes disruptions, injuries, losses or damages caused by events beyond the control of REI; or (d) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Sweepstakes.
3. Sweepstakes Period. The Contest period is from 9:00pm (Pacific) 6/26/2008 to 11:59 p.m. (Pacific) 7/06/2008 (the "Deadline.") All entries must be received by the Deadline to be eligible to win a prize.
4. How to Enter. To enter the Sweepstakes, fill out and submit an entry form at any REI retail store, or enter online at www.REI.com/email. By entering the Sweepstakes, you consent to being placed on a mailing list for promotional and other materials. Limit one entry per person. Multiple entries by the same person using one or more e-mail accounts will not be accepted. No mechanically or electronically reproduced entries will be accepted. All entries must be submitted from a valid e-mail account which may be identified by reverse domain name search. In the event of any dispute, entries will be deemed to have been submitted by the owner of the e-mail address from which the e-mail was sent.
5. To enter without purchase or obligation: Hand-print your name, address, city, state, zip, email address, day and evening phone numbers, and the words "Gearmail Sweepstakes" on a 3" x 5" card, and mail in a stamped envelope to: REI, Gearmail Sweepstakes, Attn: Promotions, 6750 South 228th St., Kent, WA 98032. Entries submitted by mail must be postmarked by 7/6/2008, and received by REI by 7/11/2008. Only one mail-in entry per stamped envelope will be accepted. Entries become the property of REI and will not be returned.
6. Selection and Notification of Winner. Winner will be determined by a random drawing from all eligible entries, to be held at REI Headquarters on or about 8/12/2008. Winners will be notified by e-mail on or about 8/15/2008. To claim a prize, winner should follow the instructions contained in his or her notification.
7. Prize. REI Adventures Grand Canyon - Sedona/Havasu hiking trip for the winner and one guest. Prize trip includes two (2) nights in hotels (double occupancy), 4 nights tent camping in Grand Canyon base camp (double occupancy); guide leadership; van transportation from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon and return; all meals from dinner on Day 1 through dinner on Day 7; packhorses to carry personal gear to/from Havasu basecamp (trip members carry only daypacks); beverages including coffee, hot tea and hot chocolate; deluxe sleeping pads; all group camping equipment; park fees, camping fees and local taxes; and up to $600 per person to be applied toward economy airfare for the winner and the winner's guest when air travel is booked through REI Adventures. Grand Prize trip does not include airport transfers; optional horseback or helicopter rides to/from the canyon rim; alcoholic beverages; sleeping bags; guide gratuities; or airfare to/from Phoenix beyond the $600 per person maximum. Approximate retail value of the Grand Prize trip is $6,050 when air travel is booked through REI Adventures ($4,850 if air travel is not booked through REI Adventures).
   Dates of travel are subject to trip availability, but all Prize Trips must be completed by December 31, 2009. Prize Trip is for the winner and one guest only, and winner and guest must travel on the same trip. Winner's guest must be at least 18 years of age prior to taking the trip unless winner is the parent or legal guardian of the guest. In the event air travel between winner's and winner's guest's home city and the trip departure city is not booked through REI Adventures, such airfare shall be the sole responsibility of the winner and winner's guest, and in no event shall winner or winner's guest be entitled to any cash, credit, or rebate for such airfare. In the event the airfare booked through REI Adventures for travel between winner's and winner's guest's home city and the trip departure city is greater than the per person maximum applicable to each prize trip described above, the winner and guest shall be responsible for the difference; provided, however, in no event shall winner and/or guest be entitled to any cash, credit or rebate in the event such airfare is less than the per person maximum applicable to each prize trip described above, nor shall winner and/or guest be entitled to use any of such amount for airfare for any other person other than the winner's guest. Except as otherwise expressly identified above, each winner and guest are further responsible for ground transportation to and from the airports and group meeting location, insurance of any kind, excess baggage charges or airport taxes (if any), alcoholic beverages, gratuities, items of a personal nature, all meals, and all other expenses that winner and guest incur in connection with the trip, including, but not limited to, all applicable passport, visa, and entry/exit fees. By accepting a prize, winner and guest agree to comply with all requirements and abide by all rules of REI Adventures in connection with the prize trip, including but not limited to signing liability releases. Actual features of the prize trips awarded shall be selected by REI Adventures in its sole discretion and may vary from photos used in print, REI in-store advertising, and in electronic and Web banner advertising including the REI or REI Adventures Web sites. Trip descriptions set forth in these Official Rules are current as of the Sweepstakes period for trips taken during the year 2008; however, REI and REI Adventures reserve the right to modify and/or update trip information and logistics for trips taken during the year 2009, and/or as REI or REI Adventures deem necessary.    Odds of winning a prize depend on number of eligible entries received. ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL TAXES ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECEIPT OR USE OF ANY PRIZES ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WINNER. All prizes will be awarded. Prizes returned as undeliverable or otherwise not claimed within 10 days after delivery of notification will be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner selected by a second random drawing from all remaining eligible entries. Prizes are not transferable, are not eligible for the REI member refund, and may not be used with any other promotional discount. No substitutions or exchanges (including for cash) of any prize will be permitted, except that REI reserves the right to substitute a prize of comparable or greater value for any prize. Limit one prize per household or address. All prizes are awarded "AS IS" and WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, express or implied, (including, without limitation, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose).
8. General Release. By entering the Sweepstakes, you release REI, participating sponsors and any of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agencies (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any liability whatsoever, and waive any and all causes of action, for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the Sweepstakes or acceptance, possession, or use of any prize (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses and damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light, whether intentional or unintentional), whether under a theory of contract, tort (including negligence), warranty or other theory.
9. Use of Winner's Name, Likeness, etc. Except where prohibited by law, entry into the sweepstakes constitutes permission to use winner's name, address, likeness and/or prize information, without limitation, for promotional purposes without further permission or compensation. As a condition of being awarded any prize, except where prohibited by law, winner may be required to execute a consent to the use of their name, address, likeness and/or prize information, without limitation, for promotional purposes without further permission or compensation.
10. Affidavit & Release. As a condition of being awarded any prize, winner will be required to execute and deliver to REI a signed affidavit of eligibility, acceptance of these Official Rules and release of liability.

13. Miscellaneous. The Sweepstakes and these Official Rules will be governed, construed and interpreted under the laws of the United States. Entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of REI, which are final and binding in all respects. REI reserves the right to suspend or cancel the Sweepstakes or any entrant's participation in the Sweepstakes should viruses, bugs, unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond REI's control affect the administration, security or proper play of the Sweepstakes or REI otherwise becomes (as determined in its sole discretion) incapable of running the Sweepstakes as planned, in which event all prizes will be awarded via a random drawing from among all eligible entries received prior to cancellation. Entrants who violate these Official Rules, tamper with the operation of the Sweepstakes or engage in any conduct that is detrimental or unfair to REI, the Sweepstakes or any other entrant (in each case as determined in REI's sole discretion) are subject to disqualification from entry into the Sweepstakes.
